  • Fun Fact

Did you know that American eels in Nova Scotia live into their 40s and 50s? Scientists at Cape Breton University can tell the age of an eel using their otoliths, or ear bones, by counting annular growth rings on the bone. This process is similar to using growth rings on trees to tell their age. This otolith was from a 40-year old eel from Margaree Harbour, right here in Nova Scotia!
